India
Jodhpur is an ancient city founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha. It is also refered to as the "Sun City" and the "Blue City" for the year round sunny weather and blue painted buildings surrounding the Mehrangarh Fort, respectively. It lies near the geographic center of Rajasthan state making it a convenient base for travel in a region much frequented by tourists. this is an alternative tourism destination because there is little tourism infrastructure. Kanha National Park was the inpiration for The Jungle Book. it covers an area of 940 km2 and it includes the Kanha Tiger Reserve. I belive it is an alternative tourism destination because of the sensitive environment which would not be able to handle large amounts of tourists. Gulmarg is a hill resort in northern India. Meaning "Meadow of Flowers", it's natural beauty has attracted tourists since long ago and been the back drop of many a Bollywood movie. The steep slopes of its mountains provide the only opertune place for heli-skiing in all of Asia. It should be a mass tourism destination by the presence of the near-by town and the amenities that the resort undoubtedly provides. Mumbai, being the most populous city in India and the fourth most populous city in the world, is a very large metropolitan city in Western India. Often refered to as Bombay, it contains "Bollywood", Victorian buildings, Juju beach, and several world-class museums and galleries.
